Seattle is for lovers...or whatever.

Kyle and I visited Seattle briefly last year and fell in love. We are not city people, but Seattle is magical. It is so green and so lush and so beautiful! We thought we would spend a whole day there on our way to Alaska this time, and it did not disappoint.

First off, we stayed at the Aloft Hotel near the airport. It was super trendy and different, but it was 100% NOT family friendly. Seattle doesn't allow kids anywhere near alcohol (I get it, really...) but the whole bottom floor of the hotel is a lounge. So the kids get to see all the cool stuff, but they can't go anywhere near the cool stuff. (There is a bar, but it isn't near the pool table and games.) The rooms were cool, but they were just...weird? The Aloft brand likes to control all of the lights in the room with one switch. This INCLUDES THE BATHROOM! If you want to get up to use the bathroom, or if you get up earlier than the others, you have no way to see. When I spoke to the front desk, they offered me a flashlight. 😆 If it's just you, it's a cool place. If you're traveling with anyone who can't sleep through anything, skip it.

We visited Sharps Roasthouse for dinner, and the food was good. If you go late, be prepared for some things to be sold out. Their smoked meats are delicious and they have really good happy hour deals. It was a 3/5 on the Logan scale, but he ordered Macaroni and Cheese at a smokehouse. (To be fair, they were out of lamb.)

The next day we went to the Pike Place Market to buy spices from our favorite spice guy, www.aldersmoked.com. We found some other delicious goodies while we were there. We also went with the intent to eat at Biscuit Bitch, but that didn't happen. We ended up at Honest Biscuits and I have to be honest (see what I did there?), it was not good. The staff was rude and the food was mediocre at best. It's a given that you have to walk through the alley while you are there and see the Gum Wall.

We were so touristy in Seattle. We visited the Seattle Great Wheel, and it was super cool. I would recommend being the mega tourist and buying the VIP car, but Seattle looks the same whether you spend $14 or $50.

We decided to go fishing with the boys, but we weren't sure how they would handle a long fishing trip. We went out and caught a few ugly fish and had a great time. We used Adventure Charters. The prices were good, the captain was nice, and we caught fish. Both boys loved it, so it was perfect.

Through a "random" like on Instagram, I wanted to eat at  Queen Anne Beerhall and it did not disappoint. When we first walked in, I almost left. We are not shared table people, but we decided to be normal and try a new place. I am glad we did. It was some of the best food I have ever had. The portions were huge and everything was fresh and delicious. I got the Käesespaetzle, I loved it. Kyle got the Pretzel Breaded Pork Shank and didn't finish half of it. Logan got Steak Frites and thought it was delicious. Coop didn't like the kids Mac and cheese but whatever. He eats bread with ketchup and thinks it's good.

After dinner, Logan convinced us to visit the Space Needle. We walked to the Needle (forgetting to put Apple Maps on WALKING directions...) in the pouring rain. What better way to experience Seattle?!? I think I would have liked the Space Needle, but the rain made it rough to see anything. They are also remodeling, so there wasn't much room. I think it's a must do if you're a tourist, but save it for a clear day if you can get one. Seattle Center is a really cool place. The boys loved it even though they were soaked to the bone. I have a picture of them playing in a really cool playground.

Seattle is a cool place, and I can't wait to go back. What are some of your favorite places to visit? Favorite places to eat?

Our latest trip (with kids)

Kyle and I like to visit cool places and do cool things. Well, they are cool in our minds. This time we brought our kids along. Cooper is six and Logan is 14.

Traveling with kids can be a bit challenging, especially when they are 8 years apart! They never want to do the same thing. We did a little bit of everything on our last trip to Seattle and Alaska, and I wanted to share what worked, and what didn't really work.

I'll share the places we visited, the activities we did, the restaurants we liked, etc... I'll rate everything on a Cooper meltdown scale and a Logan (pickiest eater alive) liked it scale.

They were wonderful on the plane, so I have no tips or tricks for that. Make sure your kids know not to be jerks and you should be good with that one. Give them the window seat and you will be golden.

Thanks for reading, and I'll share about Seattle later.
